Tips for Grooming and Cleaning Your Pets

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Everyone who has aJacksonville and Jacksonville Beach FL Pet Grooming pet knows that there some things that need to be done in order to keep them smelling and looking great! Keeping your pets groomed and cleaned is just part of the job of having a pet in your home. But it is a lot easier than you may think, especially after you do it a few times and get used to the routine.

Here are some tips for grooming and cleaning your pets:

Cat Grooming – They are usually pretty good at keeping themselves clean. While they do so
several times throughout the day, they also take in toxins and dirt during the process. You can help to eliminate that by regularly brushing them. If they have short hair, you should aim to brush them weekly, and if they have long hair, daily. Cats usually only need to be bathed if they are really dirty or have gotten into something. You can keep their nails clipped, avoiding the pink area, on a regular basis.

Dog Grooming – Dogs tend to need a little more help in the grooming department than cats do. They also need to be brushed on a regular basis in order to keep out tangles and dirt. Again, short haired breeds only need to be brushed weekly, while long haired ones need daily brushings. It is also a good idea to bathe your dog often, using a mild shampoo. Their nails should also be clipped as needed.

When grooming both cats and dogs, it is important to make sure that you are doing it when they are relaxed. Also, start with short sessions of no more than 10 minutes and build up to longer ones as they (and you) get used to being groomed.
